Route 8 is a unique route traveling along east to west from Lavender Town to Saffron City. The dirt road between the two towns winds around in a sideways "S" pattern, traveling past fields and meadows. Starting from the eastern side, Trainers exit Lavender and make their way west, where they come to a forest of trees blocking the path, which must be avoided by turning south and then west again to continue on though the route. The route then makes its way north past a field unclosed by a fence, which can be entered from a small gap which is filled by a cut-able tree. If Trainers enter the field, they will come up to a spotted patch of tall grass surrounded by red flowers; this is the only patch of tall grass on the route. Rare Pokémon such as Growlithe and Vulpix inhabit the tall grass. There is another small gap which is filled by another cut-able tree on the western side of the field that Trainers can exit, cutting the corner around the field. At the western end of the route travelers can either continue west or head north. The western path goes through a gate to Saffron City. The northern routebypasses Saffron City via an Underground Path and heads further west to Celadon City. |

Physical Appearance: At eighteen years old and an unimpressive 5'2", Cassie's stature matches her timid personality. Her hair is cut short, although it's slightly longer in front, and is a vivid light purple color. She has delicately formed features that are often described as "cute", especially with that little nose (that turns upward ever so slightly at the end), that are set with a pair of pale blue eyes that sometimes appear lilac in certain lights. Her skin is quite pale despite how much time she spends outside, although she does keep most of her body covered with her attire, which is an odd blend of adorable, modest, and sexy. It consists of a black tank top under a long-sleeved shirt that hangs off of her shoulders, the body being white and the sleeves being a dark indigo, with a front pocket edged in pale blue; this shirt is long enough that it mostly covers her (admittedly short) green plaid skirt. This skirt reveals a few inches of pale thigh before the remainder of her legs are covered by a set of striped stockings in two shades of purple. Topping off the ensemble is a pair of plain white sneakers with black accents. She wears a golden oval locket around her neck which has a picture of her father, and a brown leather belt around her left thigh.

She also wants to see the world and all the amazing things it has to offer. She loves cute and cuddly things and her favorite Pokemon is the only one she currently owns, Piplup.

Cassie, who had never been close to her mother, withdrew into herself, becoming even more reclusive than before. She found solace in reading her father's books about Pokemon, and studying them as he had done. She wanted to make him proud, and so when she finished her schooling, she decided to become a Pokemon trainer and see the world.

It had taken quite a bit of traveling, but they had finally reached Route 8. Cassie was slowly starting to come out of her shell, with the help of Piplup and Declan Dawn. He was exasperating sometimes, but she could admit that he was her friend, and that she enjoyed spending time with him. Though as they walked along the road, Piplup in her arms, she looked around curiously. She still wasn't sure why they were there.. she wasn't terribly familiar with this part of the region, nor did she really know what kind of Pokemon they might catch in this area. But she trusted Declan. That much she knew. And that was the first time she'd been able to say such a thing about someone since her dad died. However, she wasn't thinking about catching Pokemon, at the moment. She was simply walking along, enjoying herself, and humming softly. She had a pretty voice, clear and sweet, but she still hadn't found the courage to openly sing around Declan, yet. She looked around at everything curiously, wondering where they were going.

It was getting close to mid afternoon, but there was plenty of sun left over. Declan supposed they would have to find some place to sleep in Celadon. There was a hostel for young trainers in the city, he supposed they would stay there. Coming up to the tall grass he surveyed it. He could see the wild pokemon playing in it. The first pokemon he wanted Cassie to catch was a rarer one in this area so it take a bit of searching.
"Okay Cassie time for you to catch a vulpix. It's going to take a bit of searching, but we can do it."
With that he barrels into the tall grass and begins to look around.

Cassie looked over at Declan, blinked, and then her eyes rounded. "A Vulpix? But how--" And then he was off into the grass. She huffed a mildly frustrated noise. Piplup may be a water type, but she didn't have any water-based attacks yet! Beating a Vulpix would be hard if it was any stronger than her... Piplup chirped up at her, and she looked down at the Pokemon in her arms, who stretched up a flipper and patted her cheek encouragingly. She sighed. If Piplup and Declan both thought they could do it.. more importantly, if Piplup had that much faith in herself, let alone in Cassie...
"Alright. We can do this. Let's go!" Setting Piplup down, she followed Declan into the brush, the little bird Pokemon scampering along at her side. Now that she thought about it.. she would like a Vulpix. They were just so cute...

It takes about an hour of searching, but eventually Declan finds Cassie and holds a finger to his lips. He leads her over to a small den and sitting outside is a vulpix. The small fox like pokemon is gnawing on a tree branch happily. Declan looks to Cassie and smiles giving her a thumbs up. The pokeball was in her court now, she had to figure the best way to catch the little fox. ![]()  |

Cassie and Piplup turned to look at Declan when he approached, and she nodded her understanding when he gestured for her to be silent, then crept after him. Crouching down in the grass beside him, her heart melted at the sight of the adorable multi-tailed fox-like Pokemon before her, and she had to cover her mouth to stifle a happy giggle. Her mirth faded rapidly, however, when she realized it was now the moment of truth. She steeled her courage and spoke softly. "Piplup, use..." The words faltered even as she spoke them. She couldn't do it. Not without there at least being a slight chance that she could get the Vulpix without fighting it. So she softened slightly, and smiled down at the bird that was now looking up at her curiously. Petting her best friend's head gently, she then pulled the Pokemon's favorite ball out of her backpack and handed it to the water type, before gesturing for Piplup to head out.
"Go say hi. See if you can make friends. Okay?" Piplup chirped its understanding happily, then moved forward out of the grass slowly, tilting her head thoughtfully and speaking to the Vulpix in a friendly, curious manner. Cassie hunched down, waiting to see how the little fox would react to her friend. She was anxious. If the Vulpix attacked, she'd tell Piplup to fight.. but not until then.

"Vul, vul."
It barks at the piplup uncertain of what to do.

Piplup stopped where she was and looked at Vulpix, then began chirping. "Pip! Pip-pip!" Basically, she was saying, 'Don't run away! I just want to be friends! We can play with my ball!' To emphasize this fact, she bounced the ball slightly, barely catching it in her flippers. Cassie bit her lip, hoping that she wouldn't have to fight.

The vulpix remains weary, but when the ball bounces it gets curious. The small fox pokemon approaches cautiously sniffing at and around the piplup. Eventually though it pokes the ball with it's nose before bouncing backwards.

She also wants to see the world and all the amazing things it has to offer. She loves cute and cuddly things and her favorite Pokemon is the only one she currently owns, Piplup.

Cassie, who had never been close to her mother, withdrew into herself, becoming even more reclusive than before. She found solace in reading her father's books about Pokemon, and studying them as he had done. She wanted to make him proud, and so when she finished her schooling, she decided to become a Pokemon trainer and see the world.

Piplup laughed as the Vulpix nosed at the ball, then moved over and nudged it gently in the Vulpix's direction, showing them that it was perfectly safe. Cassie looked at Declan, bit her lip, and then whispered softly. "What should I do? Should I try to catch it? Or have Piplup attack? Or.. or is this working? I'm kinda out of my element here." Guidance! He was her teacher, surely he could tell her the best approach, here?

"Vul, vul!"
The little fox pokemon yips excitedly as the ball is moved toward it. He darts in close then retreats then darts back in. It's six tails are up and waving and it is clearly beginning to get into the spirit of play. Declan is hunkered next to Cassie a safe distance away. Befriended a pokemon isn't the most common method of catching them, but it does work. Declan is impressed that Cassie has decided to try it. He leans in close to her and whispers in her ear.
"Wait and see if piplup can convince the vulpix to come over. If he does then give vulpix some food."

Cassie nodded her understanding when Declan offered his suggestion. It was exactly what she'd been thinking of doing, so getting some validation from her teacher made her feel a lot more secure about this particular course of action. She turned back to watch as Piplup laughed and bounced the ball gently toward Vulpix. As she observed the scene, she carefully slid her backpack off her back and opened it, pulling out some Pokemon food. Piplup would try to play with Vulpix for a bit, rolling the ball back and forth and trying to gain his confidence, before stopping and moving closer to where Cassie was with an inquisitive sound. Cassie spoke quietly. "See if you can get Vulpix to come over here. Tell him you have some tasty food that he can try if he wants." Piplup nodded and spoke to Vulpix, conveying the message and trying to beckon the fox Pokemon over to where she was crouched, as she moved slightly closer to the edge of the tall grass.

It took the vulpix a few moments to over come it's hesitancy. When it did though it began to yip and play happily with Piplup. The vulpix followed it's new friend when she returned to Cassie, it pulled up short though when it spotted the girl and man. It eyes them warily it's tails coming up warningly and it let's our a little growl. At the urging of piplup though it inches closer one step at a time until it's just out of reach.

Cassie held her breath as the Vulpix edged slowly closer, and she made sure to move even more slowly, not making any sudden movements, as she extended her hand, offering the Pokemon food to the Vulpix. She smiled, and spoke quietly, her voice soft and soothing. "Hi. I'm Cassie. You can have this, if you want it. I won't hurt you. I promise." Piplup chirped encouragingly, moving over to hug Cassie's side and nuzzle her lovingly. Her free hand rose and affectionately petted the Pokemon, though her gaze didn't veer from the Vulpix.

The Vulpix continues to glare at Cassie mistrustfully. Then slowly inch by inch it approaches and snatches the food, before it bounces backward. It rips into the food with a fervor devouring it rapidly. When it is done it approaches Cassie still wary, but sniffing curiously. It is looking for more noms.
