 A popular cafe with young Pokemon trainers, it's a small, quaint establishment with inexpensive but delicious fare. It has a cozy atmosphere and has somewhat gained a reputation as a place where romances begin.  |

Physical Appearance: At eighteen years old and an unimpressive 5'2", Cassie's stature matches her timid personality. Her hair is cut short, although it's slightly longer in front, and is a vivid light purple color. She has delicately formed features that are often described as "cute", especially with that little nose (that turns upward ever so slightly at the end), that are set with a pair of pale blue eyes that sometimes appear lilac in certain lights. Her skin is quite pale despite how much time she spends outside, although she does keep most of her body covered with her attire, which is an odd blend of adorable, modest, and sexy. It consists of a black tank top under a long-sleeved shirt that hangs off of her shoulders, the body being white and the sleeves being a dark indigo, with a front pocket edged in pale blue; this shirt is long enough that it mostly covers her (admittedly short) green plaid skirt. This skirt reveals a few inches of pale thigh before the remainder of her legs are covered by a set of striped stockings in two shades of purple. Topping off the ensemble is a pair of plain white sneakers with black accents. She wears a golden oval locket around her neck which has a picture of her father, and a brown leather belt around her left thigh.

She likes to read and keep to herself and doesn't have any true friends. She's fascinated by Pokemon and likes to learn as much about them as she can, which is a large part of what drove her to become a Pokemon trainer. She also wants to see the world and all the amazing things it has to offer. She loves cute and cuddly things and her favorite Pokemon is the only one she currently owns, Piplup.

But when Cassie was eight, her father fell ill and ended up in the hospital. After a few months of struggling against illness, he passed away. Cassie, who had never been close to her mother, withdrew into herself, becoming even more reclusive than before. She found solace in reading her father's books about Pokemon, and studying them as he had done. She wanted to make him proud, and so when she finished her schooling, she decided to become a Pokemon trainer and see the world.

Slowing from a run to a walk as she reached the restaurant, Cassie struggled to control her breathing, smoothing her hair down. Once she was sure she didn't look like a vagabond, she stopped just in front of the cafe and looked around for Declan Dawn. It was a nice place, and though they hadn't eaten here before, she'd heard good things about it from some of the other trainers at the hostel. She wondered why Declan had wanted to come here, of all places? It was.. strange.

Declan strolls out of the restaurant when Cassie runs up and he takes a seat on that patio. He waves her over excitedly attracting a few stares from all directions. Some particularly jeleous ones land on Cassie, after all she had the eye of Declan Dawn. He was famous, handsome, and as Cassie had probably surmised by the way he casually spent money, loaded. Cassie's worries may have been misplaced, but they were perfectly understandable. Once she is seated he grins clearly excited about something.
"I've already ordered so no need to wait. Get whatever you want my treat."

Cassie spotted Declan, but didn't head toward him right away.. mostly because of the jealous and angry looks being aimed her way. She ducked her head and hunched her shoulders, trying to appear as small as possible, as she finally shuffled over to where Declan had placed himself and slid into the seat opposite him, hunkering down as much as she could so maybe women would stop glaring at her. She wanted to tell them that they could save their jealousy, that Declan had less than zero interest in her - such an idea was, in fact, so utterly ludicrous as to be beyond the realm of possibility. Glancing up at him past her bangs when he spoke, she sighed, but knew better than to protest; instead, she simply snagged the menu offered by the waiter who had just approached, and perused it briefly, before handing the item back and ordering a water and a garden salad. Then she once again lowered her gaze and tried to sink into her chair and disappear as she spoke quietly.
"Thank you for letting me have the afternoon off.. I needed the rest."

"No problem I had some thing I needed to set up. Anyway I figured out what your next pokemon should be so we will be leaving Celadon tomorrow. We are also going to have to have you start battling soon. It's important for a pokemons growth."
Declan declares this smiling. His combined excitement both for leaving tomorrow and his surprise is practically making him vibrate. The man begins to chatter away about where they are going, which is mount moon apparently, and eventually their meals arrive. Turkey club for him garden salad for her and he digs in eagerly.

Cassie winced. She didn't like the idea of Piplup and Vulpix fighting, even if she knew it was necessary. She nodded slowly to show she heard and understood what he said, then spoke quietly. "I know.. I'll do my best. Will you tell me what my next Pokemon should be, or are you going to surprise me again?" The question was probably entirely irrelevant, as Declan began talking away, as he usually did. She remained silent, for the most part, only nodding or making 'I'm listening' sounds when required to. When her salad arrived, she began to eat with a distinct lack of enthusiasm. She didn't know why Declan was so excited, but she didn't say anything about it, either. If he wanted her to know what had him all worked up, he'd tell her, she knew.

Declan remarks as he finishes his sandwich. He had talked over her question, but he did remember hearing it. So he answered her eventually, it wasn't that Declan was prone to secrets or surprising people. Declan just often forgot people didn't think the same way he did. It hadn't occurred to him that Cassie wouldn't know which pokemon she could catch on route 8.
"That's who we are going to catch you. They are cute, but tough and they are the kind of pokemon you need to get used to. It will put up a fight you likely won't be able to befriend it till you catch it."
He waits until she is finished with her dinner before immediately calling for dessert. It isn't long before the waitress comes back with a platter with a cake on it setting it down. 'Happy birthday Cassie' is written on top and it radiates cold.
"You said you didn't want cake, but everyone should have cake on their birthday. I figure maybe you don't like cake so I got you an ice cream cake! That way we can have cake without having cake. Happy birthday Cassie."
Surprisingly the older man had the sense not to start singing the song. Appreciate tly he had a modicum of tact in his head.

Pancham. Cassie knew the name, and she could picture the Pokemon in her head, and that made her smile. A cute little Pokemon, but a fighter, for sure. So she would definitely have to battle it to catch it, and she nodded to show that she understood what Declan was saying. When she finished her salad, she was prepared to get up and leave.. but then Declan apparently had ordered dessert? Cassie's brow furrowed in confusion, until she saw the waitress approaching with the cake. Then her expression went blank, and she stared down at the.. ice cream cake before her. Happy Birthday Cassie. Her hands curled into fists in her lap as tears filled her eyes. The truth was, she loved cake, and ice cream cake, but it also brought back memories of birthdays with her dad, of laughter and happiness and presents. Things she hadn't felt since he died. Not until Piplup and Declan came into her life and made her laugh again. Her heart tumbled over in an oddly pleasant way as she dragged her gaze from the cake and settled it on the man across the way from her. It was a sweet gesture, but she just.. she just couldn't. For so many reasons.
Without a word, Cassie pushed away from the table and stood, then began walking briskly away, back in the direction of the hostel. Soon she was running as tears slid down her face.

Declan was smiling expectantly at Cassie when the cake was set down. His smile slowly changed to an expression of confusion as her face feel and she got to her feet. Then she was running away and he was staring dumb founded for all of three seconds. Then he knocked his chair over as he sprinted after her. He was taller, with longer legs and in good shape so he would likely catch before she got too far. Instead of trying to stop her in a reasonable way he decided to try and grab her around the waist mid run. If he was successful he would hoist her off her feet as he say a cross between concerned and annoyed.
"Cassie why are you running! Everyone likes ice cream cake and if you don't you are wrong."

Physical Appearance: At eighteen years old and an unimpressive 5'2", Cassie's stature matches her timid personality. Her hair is cut short, although it's slightly longer in front, and is a vivid light purple color. She has delicately formed features that are often described as "cute", especially with that little nose (that turns upward ever so slightly at the end), that are set with a pair of pale blue eyes that sometimes appear lilac in certain lights. Her skin is quite pale despite how much time she spends outside, although she does keep most of her body covered with her attire, which is an odd blend of adorable, modest, and sexy. It consists of a black tank top under a long-sleeved shirt that hangs off of her shoulders, the body being white and the sleeves being a dark indigo, with a front pocket edged in pale blue; this shirt is long enough that it mostly covers her (admittedly short) green plaid skirt. Cassie gasped in surprise as she was suddenly grabbed around the waist and completely picked up off her feet. She began struggling, wriggling in his arms and kicking and trying to make him let her go, even as she vigorously scrubbed at her face, wiping away the tears falling from her eyes with her sleeves. When Declan spoke, she breathed a frustrated sob, and continued to squirm, fighting in vain to get free - he was bigger and stronger and sturdier, she wasn't going anywhere, and she knew it. Didn't stop her from attempting it, however, even as she tearfully explained, her voice a mixture of confused, angry, and sad.
"It has nothing to do with the c-cake! I love cake, a-and ice cream cake! I-it's my birthday! I've ref-fused to celebrate it since m-my Dad died! I didn't w-want to celebrate and y-you just did it anyway! And the c-cake was really s-sweet of you but I don't want to celebrate and why are you holding me and why do you even care?!" She broke down in pitiful sobs, burying her face in her sleeve-covered hands as her struggling stopped, and she simply lay draped in his arms like a rag doll.

Declan kept holding her stubbornly as she struggled. Mostly because he was a stubborn man. When Cassie broke down though he held on for a different reason, confusion. This emotional break down was not what he had expected. He wasn't actually sure how to handle it either. So he just said the first thing that came to his head.
"I'm holding you because you ran away, I care because you are my friend. I also get that you are sad about your father passing, but wouldn't he want you to be happy? I mean if I died I'd still want you to eat cake and have fun on your birthday. I would feel sad if I knew you were feeling sad."

Cassie's shuddering sobs slowly died down into soft sniffles, and she wiped at her face to try and scrub away the tears. Her eyes were red-rimmed and her cheeks flushed as she turned her head and looked over her shoulder at Declan, her eyes dark and mournful. Her voice was slightly hoarse when she spoke again, quietly. "My dad was the only one who ever celebrated my birthday. Mom was always working and I never had any friends. When he died, Mom tried to make it mean something, but she was still usually gone.. I'd wake up to a present and a note and money to order pizza if I wanted it, but I was still alone. Birthdays stopped being special. It's just another day, and not worth celebrating."
Being called his friend made something inside her chest tighten painfully, even as it made her happy that he cared enough to call her that. With a little bit of effort, she stretched out till she could press the toes of her sneakers to the ground, and turned herself around in his arms with a great deal of wiggling and discomfort. Finally, though, she was facing Declan, and she slid her arms around him with obvious hesitance. Her cheek pressed to his chest as she gave him an uncertain hug. "Thank you for thinking of me, Declan. If you want, we'll go back and eat the cake, and I'll do my best to enjoy it. I just don't feel like my being born is something worth celebrating." No one cared about her, after all.. except Piplup and Vulpix.. and Declan, in his own way. At least, he cared for now, anyway. No telling how long that would last. The thought just made her sadder, but she tried to ignore it, and not to let it show.

"Well your dad thought it was worth celebrating. I do to, pretty sure Piplup and Vulpix do. So I think that is reason enough to celebrate."
Declan holds the hug for another long moment. Cassie is very small, warm, and soft it makes hugging her very pleasant. After a moment though he lets go and takes her hand. He then walks her back to the cafe where the waitress is about to cart away the cake. Declan waves her off and takes his seat. He slices up the cake and passes her a slice before digging in his own.
"Oh before I pick the rest of your team, are there any pokemon you'd like to catch?"
It was a surprising bit of consideration on his part. Usually he just made choices, he very rarely asked other people for their opinion.

Cassie said nothing as Declan said he was glad she was alive, and Piplup and Vulpix probably were, too. Well, he didn't say it in those exact words, but it was implicit in his response. Nodding slightly, she looked down at the ground as he let her go, took her hand, and lead her back to the table. Sitting down wordlessly, she looked at the ice cream cake as it was cut up and a piece put in front of her. Taking it, she grabbed her spoon and dug out a small bite, sliding it into her mouth. Only when Declan asked her thoughts on any Pokemon she'd like to catch did Cassie finally blink and look up at him. Declan never asked her opinion on anything... She wasn't sure how she felt about him asking now, and she was so surprised by the fact that she blurted the first thought that came into her head.
"Deerling." She blushed, and lowered her head, continuing quietly. "..Deerling is.. really cute." To silence herself, she took another bite of her slice of ice cream cake, looking down at the table.

"So water, fire, fighting, grass... Hmm you are going to have a balanced team. Some of the best trainers have balanced teams."
Declan nods enthusiastically as he finishes his first piece of cake. He immediately helps himself to another. He takes a breath getting ready to prattle on as he usually does. He was a battle maniac and he always loved discussing the nuances of it. Indeed considering how good he was it was peculiar that he chose to focus on a singular type. Perhaps he just enjoyed the challenge? Or perhaps he was just that silly. Either way instead of doing so he pauses and says curiously.
"Is there anything you'd like to talk about?"
He was trying to be considerate since it was her birthday. It wasn't something he normally did, but he had in the past. Usually with the people who were most important to him.
