It was early evening the sun not quite set when Cassie and Declan made their way into the city. As they wandered through the streets a handful of people stopped to stare at the man. He was a well known pokemon trainer and many of his battles had been televised. Still he seemed oblivious as he lead Cassie to the youth hostel where he secured a couple of beds for them. Grinning he says excitedly.
"Man this reminds me of when I first started out. It's been forever since I stayed in a place like this, you excited Cassie?"

Physical Appearance: At eighteen years old and an unimpressive 5'2", Cassie's stature matches her timid personality. Her hair is cut short, although it's slightly longer in front, and is a vivid light purple color. She has delicately formed features that are often described as "cute", especially with that little nose (that turns upward ever so slightly at the end), that are set with a pair of pale blue eyes that sometimes appear lilac in certain lights. Her skin is quite pale despite how much time she spends outside, although she does keep most of her body covered with her attire, which is an odd blend of adorable, modest, and sexy. It consists of a black tank top under a long-sleeved shirt that hangs off of her shoulders, the body being white and the sleeves being a dark indigo, with a front pocket edged in pale blue; this shirt is long enough that it mostly covers her (admittedly short) green plaid skirt. This skirt reveals a few inches of pale thigh before the remainder of her legs are covered by a set of striped stockings in two shades of purple. Topping off the ensemble is a pair of plain white sneakers with black accents. She wears a golden oval locket around her neck which has a picture of her father, and a brown leather belt around her left thigh.

She found solace in reading her father's books about Pokemon, and studying them as he had done. She wanted to make him proud, and so when she finished her schooling, she decided to become a Pokemon trainer and see the world.

Despite her elation, Cassie was quiet as they entered Celadon City and moved toward the hostel. She clutched Piplup closely to her body and kept her head down, hoping that all the people staring at Declan wouldn't notice her, and didn't relax until they entered the hostel. She shifted anxiously as Declan secured two beds for them, then looked up at him when he spoke, before smiling slightly and nodding.
"It's still kind of hard to believe I'm really out here, doing this, catching Pokemon.. especially with you. I never realized you were so.. well.. famous." She'd heard people talking in the streets as they passed, and she was looking at Declan with a mixture of awe, fear, and uncertainty, a new gamut of emotions brought on by this revelation. What in the world was he doing teaching her how to be a trainer, when he was so well-known? He could be off with a different girl every night, going to parties.. and instead he was teaching some inept girl who would be eighteen in a few days how to be a Pokemon trainer. Cassie ducked her head. Her features had always been very open, and easily displayed her emotions.. she didn't want Declan to see the sudden resignation on her face, the knowledge that he would soon get bored and leave her alone. "Thank you for everything, Mister Dawn. I think I'll go to bed, now."

Declan is staring tat her curiously. Even he wasn't oblivious enough to notice the shift in mood. She had been ecstatic at catching her new pokemon less than an hour ago. Now she was looking at her feet and seemed defeated. Then his stomach growled and reminded them they hadn't had dinner yet.
"Also you can't go to bed yet, what about dinner? You'll wake up hungry and we have a lot of walking to do tomorrow."

"I.. I'm fine. Just.. tired. It's been an exhausting day." Oh, right. Dinner. Cassie sighed. It wouldn't have been the first time she'd chosen to go to bed without eating, but... She looked at Piplup, who chirped. She at least had to feed Piplup. So she straightened, squared her shoulders, and nodded. "Okay. Let's eat."

Declan leads Cassie out of the youth hostel and to a nearby restaurant where they eat. The meal would be passed in conversation whether Cassie liked it or not. Declan was too energetic and talkative to let he mood stop him. Afer dinner they would retire to their beds which were in a communal room his next to hers. The next few days were spent as promised walking. He would lead her from the city and then coach her on training her pokemon. Mostly battle strategy and the like as well as bonding and getting closer with vulpix. Finally three days later after a morning spent training he would end early giving her the afternoon off. He was mysterious as to what he had planned just saying that he would meet her for dinner at a nearby restaurant.

Cassie did her best not to think about the fact that her time with Declan was winding down steadily. It was easier to do while they were out and about, working with Piplup and Vulpix, but at night, when they returned to the hostel... She laid awake late into the night, thinking of how much she was going to miss him. He had become her first true friend, after all. The day of her birthday, Cassie treated it like any other - because it really was, in her opinion. She was, however, grateful that Declan called it an early day. With a promise to meet him at the restaurant at the requested time, she returned to the hostel and took a quick nap, only barely avoiding oversleeping and having to rush out and to the restaurant, leaving Piplup and Vulpix behind to play with some of the other trainers' Pokemon.

<A couple of hours later>
Cassie barely looked up as they entered the hostel after their awkward and strained dinner, only enough to navigate to the courtyard where their Pokemon were gathered. There were no other trainers there, just the Pokemon themselves who were in various states of rest and play, which was a great relief to the girl. She moved over to a log and sat down on the ground, leaning back against the fallen tree. Piplup and Vulpix came over, chattering happily at her, and while Vulpix hopped up onto the log and laid his head on her shoulder, Piplup climbed onto her lap and settled in comfortably. She turned her head and nuzzled Vulpix affectionately as she petted Piplup, then glanced at Declan. She owed him an explanation.. she just really didn't want to give it. But she sighed and began to talk anyway, looking down at the Pokemon in her lap rather than at her friend.
"I don't make eye contact with you due to disliking you.. like I said, I like you a lot. It's because when I look at you, I get this weird feeling, like there's a bunch of Butterfrees trapped in my stomach just flapping around, and it's very unsettling. I try to hide because I'm not used to someone actually looking at me.. and when it's not you looking at me, it's other people. Girls glare at me all the time when we're together places, and I know it's just because I'm friends with you, but it still makes me feel bad, and so I just try to make myself as small as possible so they'll stop." She fidgeted, and unconsciously hunched her shoulders as she ducked her head, her usual response to having to say something that made her uncomfortable. And what she said next, in that quiet voice, definitely made her uncomfortable.
"If you go away, I won't see you again.. you'll forget about me, because I'm not important. I don't want to be famous, or be the best trainer ever, or catch all the Pokemon.. I don't even want to win badges or battle other people. I just want.. I don't want to be alone anymore... Traveling with you forever would be nice.. because you're the only friend I've ever had, even if it's just because you feel sorry for me, and.. if you go away, that'll stop, because I'm just.. irrelevant." Her head lowered yet more, hair spilling forward across her face as she hugged Piplup to her chest. "But I'm not going to ask you to stay with me, because you're important, and you have things to do, and I'm not so selfish as to get in the way of that. So I'll just.. enjoy it while it lasts, and.. one day, I'll be a good enough trainer that I can win enough battles to buy some land out in the middle of nowhere, and build a house, and I'll just.. stay there with my Pokemon, out of the way, where I won't bother anyone, and no one will have to feel sorry for me because they won't see me."

Declan followed Cassie into the section where the pokemon where playing. His own team preferred to relax when given the chance. They were old and battle hardened and though they could be affectionate they were laid back with age. He stands in front of Cassie and listens to what she has to say. It was the right choice to be completely honest with him. Subtlety and understanding where not strong suit of his. Still he is a little confused, complex emotions where also not a strong suit. Her feelings of inadequacy and strong affection where lost on him. He rarely if ever took other peoples opinions into consideration. Indeed he only cared about those who were close to him.
"Okay so I'm not going to pretend to understand most of that. If people are glaring at you who cares? It's not like that matters. They can do what they want, I don't see why you feel bad about it. They don't know you and if they decide to have issue that is their problem. I also don't get the butterfree thing, I don't see why me looking at you would cause that."
Declan hunkers down and then like that first day he puts his finger to her forehead. He pushes Cassie's head back until she is making eye contact with him. His expression is rather annoyed, but also gentle.
"Also I am a little offended. You are my pupil, if you don't want to fight the elite four or the gym leaders that's fine. I think you should though cause battling is fun. Either way it doesn't matter. I decided to train you because I needed something to do and you seemed nice. I have kept doing it because you are nice and I want you to be better. You aren't just my pupil you are my friend. If you think I am just going to ditch you forever when this is done, you are wrong. I don't know what I did to give you the impression that I would, but it isn't happening. So stop this talk about living the rest of your life alone. Also I wouldn't mind if you followed me around for as long as you want. It's nice to have company."

Physical Appearance: At eighteen years old and an unimpressive 5'2", Cassie's stature matches her timid personality. Her hair is cut short, although it's slightly longer in front, and is a vivid light purple color. She has delicately formed features that are often described as "cute", especially with that little nose (that turns upward ever so slightly at the end), that are set with a pair of pale blue eyes that sometimes appear lilac in certain lights. Her skin is quite pale despite how much time she spends outside, although she does keep most of her body covered with her attire, which is an odd blend of adorable, modest, and sexy. It consists of a black tank top under a long-sleeved shirt that hangs off of her shoulders, the body being white and the sleeves being a dark indigo, with a front pocket edged in pale blue; this shirt is long enough that it mostly covers her (admittedly short) green plaid skirt. This skirt reveals a few inches of pale thigh before the remainder of her legs are covered by a set of striped stockings in two shades of purple. Topping off the ensemble is a pair of plain white sneakers with black accents. She wears a golden oval locket around her neck which has a picture of her father, and a brown leather belt around her left thigh.

Skills: Cassie is a skilled singer, although usually too shy to sing where people can hear her. She can also ride a bike and rollerskate, preferring the latter to the former; she can often be seen skating around town, listening to music.

Personality: Shy and non-confrontational, Cassie doesn't often speak to others, and perpetually keeps a lollipop in her mouth to use as an excuse to avoid conversation. She likes to read and keep to herself and doesn't have any true friends. She's fascinated by Pokemon and likes to learn as much about them as she can, which is a large part of what drove her to become a Pokemon trainer. She also wants to see the world and all the amazing things it has to offer. She loves cute and cuddly things and her favorite Pokemon is the only one she currently owns, Piplup.

History (Optional): Born and raised in Cerulean City, Cassie was always a rather quiet and shy child. She was shunned by the other children from a very young age, and that was fine by her; she was perfectly happy to spend most of her time with her favorite person in the world, her father Will. But when Cassie was eight, her father fell ill and ended up in the hospital. After a few months of struggling against illness, he passed away. Cassie, who had never been close to her mother, withdrew into herself, becoming even more reclusive than before. She found solace in reading her father's books about Pokemon, and studying them as he had done. She wanted to make him proud, and so when she finished her schooling, she decided to become a Pokemon trainer and see the world.

..He didn't understand. Cassie sighed. Of course he hadn't. Why had she even bothered? She was on the verge of getting up and retreating to her room when Declan crouched in front of her, and her nose crinkled when he pressed against her forehead, tilting her head up so their eyes met. Seeing the annoyed expression on his face made her flinch, even if it was tempered by gentleness. His words filled her with such a mixture of emotions: Confusion, hope, disappointment, annoyance, and a longing even she didn't quite understand. It all bubbled up inside her, and she huffed a frustrated sound as she batted his hand away from her face. She suddenly wanted to hit him, or push him away, or.. something. But that wasn't like her, so she ended up setting Piplup aside and standing.
"Right. You're right. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said anything. So let's just pretend I didn't. Thank you for the birthday cake, Mister Dawn. I'm going to go to bed, now. We should get back on the road tomorrow. Goodnight." Piplup and Vulpix looked at her with confusion as she left, then glanced at Declan as though to ask him what he'd done, before the pair scampered after their trainer, intent on cuddling her. They didn't understand what was wrong, but curling up with her always seemed to make Cassie feel better, and both of the Pokemon adored her, so they'd do anything to make her happy.

Declan watches bewildered as Cassie walks away. She seemed upset and he had no idea why. This was very peculiar and he didn't like it. Still he wasn't sure what he should do. For the moment he opted to go to bed.

When Declan awoke the next morning, he'd find Cassie's room empty and her Pokemon gone. She'd left a note with the people at the desk that simply said, 'Gone to Route 8. -Cassie'
